About dropping odds

What are dropping odds?

Odds that shorten at several bookmakers at once. A price falls when money arrives on a selection or when the market's view of it changes — team news, a non-runner, a jockey booking. GoldEdge counts a move when the implied probability rises by at least 15% at two or more bookmakers, or at the sharp reference (Pinnacle for sports, the betting exchange for racing), inside 15 or 60 minutes or since the first price it saw.

What is a steamer, and what is a drifter?

A steamer is a selection whose price is shortening across the market: 6.0 to 3.5, say. A drifter is the opposite, a price lengthening because the market likes it less. Moves are measured in implied probability rather than raw odds, so a 2.0 to 1.8 move and a 10.0 to 8.0 move are compared fairly.

Why does a move at one bookmaker not count?

Because it is usually a promotion, a price boost or a pricing error rather than information. A single-book move is tagged book-specific and never sent as an alert. A move confirmed by two or more books, or by the sharp reference, is much more likely to reflect what the market actually knows.

What does 'still available' mean?

Bookmakers do not all move at the same moment. When a selection steams, some books are still offering the old, longer price for a while. GoldEdge lists those books and the expected value at their price against the fair line. A book whose feed has stopped updating is left out, so a dead feed is never shown as a lagging price.

Why are the moves on this page 15 minutes late?

The public pages show every confirmed move 15 minutes after it was found, without the prices still available. The live feed — with the lagging books and the EV at their price — is in the app, and the same moves can be sent to Telegram and Discord as alerts.
